Train spotting

A pleasant afternoon was recently spent train spotting overlooking the down end siding at Tsubojiri-jinja-mae.

First sighted was an up service operated by a 183 series EMU. A photo of the rear of the train as it sped past.

Next arrival was the local railcar (Kiha 32) which was routed into the siding before driving back into the platform.

The down express is a little ahead of time so must wait at the signal for the railcar to drive back into the platform.

With the local out of sight in the platform road, the down express is able to continue on its journey.

Two buses wait at the level crossing as the express makes it was south.

The signal has dropped back as the last of the express disappears into the tunnel.

An up service operated by a KiHa 45 set emerges from the tunnel.

This service dos not call at Tsubojiri-jinja-mae and passes the local service that will depart once the signal clears.

After the local railcar disappeared into the tunnel southbound an up oil train emerged behind a DD13.

The highlight of the day was the down steam special. with little smoke or steam present D51 (2-8-2) coasts down the hill leading a three car train full of enthusiasts.

A closer view as the steam loco eases into the curve .

It appears I was the only observer out watching as the special passed through town.

Having passed the steam special at the next station down the line, the up container freight service now has to wait at the arrival signal for the down local service to arrive. The two busses have returned to the level crossing once again.

The down local service arrives in to the dead end siding. This time the service is provided by a double consist of KiHa 32 railcars.

With the road set from the siding to the platform, the signal comes off to allow the local to drive back to the platform.

With the local service tucked away in the platform the north-bound container service behind the DF class diesel heads away towards the green signal.

That is the end of my train spotting afternoon at Tsubojiri-jinja-mae. (A nice way to spend an hour or so in the back room)
